Nasce a Croydon in Inghilterra nel 1963. Figura di punta degli Young British Artists negli anni ‘90, viene nominata al Turner Price nel 1999 grazie alla celebre opera My Bed, installazione readymade intimistica dalla forte connotazione autobiografica, caratteristica della sua pratica. Nel 2011 viene nominata Professoressa di Disegno presso la Royal Academy di Londra.
